Well, Rosemary Rogers did something a little similar when Prince Andrew and Fergie were getting married. I don't recall any repercussions. As a matter of fact, all I can recall about it is that it was rather... purple. :-P
And if I'm going to read a Prince William fanfic, I'd really rather it was slash. *cough*
Really? That's...wow. I didn't even know about that or the fact that people were publishing it. I understand about the slash part though. I've never read Prince William fanfic but it would definitely have to be slash for me to attempt... ;)
