slyprentice: (discombob)

I know a lot of people are still in the "let's break shit!" phase of dealing with the upcoming new Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Elementary, but I have to say that I'm really looking forward to it. Especially after watching this clip on CBS' website. I know that's a really unpopular opinion right now but it's the honest truth.

I really like the storyline behind it - I'm loving that Joan Watson is hired by Sherlock's father to be Sherlock's sober companion - and I'll be interested to find out some of the things I'm curious about:

- Why is Sherlock in Manhattan for rehab and not somewhere else? Did his father force him away? Did Mycroft?
- Why isn't Joan a doctor anymore? What happened?
- Why isn't she a solider? That seems like an important part of Watson's character to leave out but...maybe not?
- Will there be any appearances of the other characters? Like a cameo of Lestrade? Mycroft?

...and those are just a few things.

I think a lot of people are getting hung up on things about it that are just silly. For instance, Sherlock saying "I hate it when I'm right" in the preview trailer: Really? Really? That's what you're going to get hung up on? A six-word throw-away sentence after Holmes finds the body that's "not right" because "Sherlock loves being right"...I just...it's a figure of speech! It's something you say when something horrible happens - like someone is murdered - and you "called it".

Also everyone's up in arms over Joan gasping over the body and stepping away...I'm not even going to address that, actually. I'll just leave this here and let it speak for itself.

I also think it's sad that Cumberbatch had to say this:
“[Elementary´╗┐ will] be different and I don’t think it’ll take away the love for ours, and there’s no reason to be churlish or bitter about them or what they’re trying to do” — BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH

I know I'm rambling a bit but I just have to say that I wish people would give this a fair chance. Not that that's going to happen but I still wish for it. I mean, it's Holmes and Watson, and I've loved those two since well before BBC's Sherlock. Hell, I've loved them since I was I kid and that has nothing to do with Cumberbatch. It had everything to do with ACD and his awesome characters.

...now I'm off my fifteen and back to work!
